• Exploring Greywater Pretreatment – Alaska Water Sewer Challenge Phase 2 Extension
    • Aaron Dotson (Associate Professor, Civil Engineering, UAA)
    • April 13, 2018

University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) has led one of the three final teams in the Alaska Water Sewer Challenge. Three teams operated their prototype systems from Summer 2016 until Summer 2017 and subsequently reported their findings in July 2017. While each system operated reasonably well, none of the teams were able to fully meet the project objectives set forth by the State of Alaska. Since reporting prototype findings, UAA has been evaluating alternative pretreatment configurations to rectify their most significant problem, membrane fouling. Laboratory evaluation focused on incorporating pretreatment systems utilized by other teams including; filtration, granular activated carbon and biological treatment. This presentation will present findings of these laboratory efforts and share details of the prototype restart during the Summer of 2018.
