From Bethel to Utqiaġvik: a coastal traverse connecting science and community knowledge

The COAST-X 2026 snowmachine traverse along Alaska’s western and northern coasts will soon be underway!

Led by INE researchers Benjamin Jones and Phillip Wilson, the team will travel from community to community to better understand how these Arctic coastlines are changing and what those changes mean for the people who live there. The project bridges scientific research with local knowledge and aims to cultivate a space for open dialogue, shared learning, and meaningful collaboration.
