Dr. Nicole Misarti was appointed to INE director in February 2024. She brings a wealth of research and administrative leadership experience to this position. She has served as an INE research faculty member since 2012 and as director of the Water & Environmental Research Center since 2019.
Misarti has an interdisciplinary research background with degrees in environmental science, archaeology, and marine science. Her main research focus is on long-term climate and marine ecosystem changes, coastal resilience in Alaska, and application of this knowledge to help navigate the future in a rapidly changing sub-Arctic and Arctic. She has served on the Board of the National Institutes of Water Research for several years, including service as Board President.
