INE receives grant for resilient and smart infrastructure

The University of Alaska Institute of Northern Engineering has been awarded a planning grant, “INNSF R2I2: Alaska Innovation Incubator for Resilient and Smart Infrastructure in Extreme and Changing Environments”. 

The objective of the study is to lay the groundwork for the incubator focusing on a prosperous and secure Arctic region through resilient infrastructure than can serve the local and Indigenous communities ensuring their well-being. This will be achieved by engaging Alaskan communities, industry and local and federal governments, and development of future scientists, engineers and skilled workers with Arctic Expertise. The team will focus on the North Slope Borough and the Seward Peninsula.

The study will be conducted in partnership with Pennsylvania State University (Lead), University of California Berkley, George Masion University, Northland Sustainability Consulting, University of Alaska Anchorage and the University of Maine. The total grant amounts to $193,006 of which UAF will receive $76,999.
