Lifting of the load frames

Exciting developments are happening in the High Bay!

CEM/INE staff are in the process of setting up the load frames, which means lifting up those massive blue steel girders you may have seen resting on the floor until just recently.

This is a major milestone for the High Bay, and we're documenting the process on video. You can follow along and watch short clips of the work being done on our youTube channel.

The High Bay is a state-of-the-art structural testing laboratory located in the Usibelli Engineering Building on the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus. It is outfitted with a 30-ton overhead crane and a strong floor constructed of super-reinforced concrete. The space is intended to be used by students and faculty to test building components for large structures.
