The Natural and Energy Resources Engineering Center (NEREC) strives to advances Alaska’s leadership in energy and mineral research.
NEREC unites the Institute of Northern Engineering’s expertise in petroleum, mining, mineral processing, and analytical research to help Alaska’s resource industries meet the challenges of responsible development.
By combining the strengths of the Petroleum Development Laboratory, the Mineral Industry Research Laboratory, and the Critical Minerals Laboratory, NEREC provides an integrated platform for innovation.
Current efforts range from improving heavy oil recovery, mineral processing methods, and carbon sequestration to addressing energy supply and water management challenges faced by remote operations.
Through strong partnerships with industry and government, NEREC promotes responsible resource development, economic growth, and environmental stewardship across Alaska and the Arctic.
We collaborate with industry and research organizations to strengthen Alaska’s economy through innovative, sustainable development and processing of the state’s natural resources.
