Elemental Analysis—Cations

The MAC laboratories utilize both plasma mass spectrometry and plasma emissions for the quantitative analysis of more than 70 elements.

In general, the selection between ICP-MS and MP-AES is a matter of sample concentration, with ICP-MS being significantly more sensitive and better equipped for low ppb, and below.

  • Analytes & Methods

    ICP/MS

Trace level cations such as cadmium, chromium, arsenic lead, selenium, and rare earth elements.

    MP-AES

Minerals/higher concentration cations such as calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, iron and manganese.

  • Available Instrumentation

    • Analytikjena Plasma Quant Elite ICP/MS
      (DUCK 241)
    • Agilent 4200 MP-AES
      (JUB 211)

Rates

  Internal/UA clients External clients
Solid sample (per hour instrument time) $150 $208
Aqueous sample (per sample) $30 $42

The above sample rates are for ONE element. Additional elements and/or any sample preparation steps needed will be quoted separately.

The costs shown above are estimates, and will be discussed and agreed upon prior to the lab accepting samples.
