The purpose of the Toklat Way H2Ri Wicking Fabric project is to verify the effectiveness of H2Ri to mitigate frost boils in Alaskan pavements. A test section was built at the University of Alaska Fairbanks on Toklat Way with installation of one layer of H2Ri. The test section was instrumented with moisture and temperature sensors to measure the temperature and moisture changes for two years. Results will be analyzed to evaluate the effectiveness of the H2Ri to mitigate the frost boils in Alaskan pavements.
The test section is located at the University of Alaska Fairbanks Main Campus on Toklat Way. The road way is located north of the Reichardt Building, and south of North Tanana Loop. The section of road was selected due to the poor soil conditions existing on site.
