It has been two adventurous years since our last community meeting for our NSF sponsored research investigating Aleutian Mercury Dynamics (NSF-ARCSS/ASSP 1935816-1935823).
In the past year, our archaeology team successfully conducted field research at an ancestral Sasignan village on Agattu Island in the far western Aleutians.Our laboratory team has processed and analyzed mercury content from 1,500 otariid and cod bones from ancestral villages on 19 Aleutian Islands, spanning 2200km (1244 mi), and 5,000 years.
We will be hosting a virtual community gathering via Zoom for our Alaska Community, Indigenous and science partners to provide updates on the project, and to discuss questions, comments, and insights you may have in this work.
