The Site Description Database

Site: C4 Site Type: Area Unit: CPCRW
Site Description: The tributary basins of Caribou Creek are all arbitrarily designated with a "C". The C4 basin is the largest of the Caribou Creek tributaries, and enters Caribou Creek about 400 m above its confluence with Poker Creek. The flume in C4 is about 1 km upstream from the confluence of Little Poker Creek and Caribou Creek. There is an intermittent tributary called Dry Gulch that drains the Caribou Peak area, and which has a small Parshall flume on it. The basin has a tributary known as Dry Gulch that drains the Caribou Peak area, and is intermittent in its lower reaches but may be permanent on the steeper upstream slopes.
Site Directions: The flume at C4 is reached from the Caribou Peak trail. Heading north from the confluence of Poker and Caribou Creeks, take a left at the Caribou-Poker Junction, go past the camp, and up the hill about a mile. At the four-way junction, take a left down the hill. If you are in a pickup truck, it might be best to park at this point, as the hill is quite steep and any moisture (rain, dew) makes the trail very slick. If you are on an ATV, continue down the hill, past the turn to Dry Gulch, and park at the turn-around. The flume is on a path that leads to the north (right, if you are facing down hill). The trail continues on to a bridge over the stream, but it is not maintained, and even ATVs will get stuck. The Riparian clearing site is downstream from the bridge.
