Background and Research Interests

Daniel E. Walsh, P. E. is Professor of Mineral Preparation Engineering at the University of Alaska Fairbanks and a registered professional mining engineer in the State of Alaska. He is currently serving on the State of Alaska Board of Registration for Architects, Engineers and Land Surveyors, a member board of the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES). Professor Walsh joined the Mineral Industry Research Laboratory, University of Alaska Fairbanks, in 1982 and has remained an employee of the University for the past 26 years, where he currently teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses in mining engineering and mineral preparation engineering, respectively. His research interests span a broad range of processing applications, including gravity concentration, plant design, coal-water fuel production, coal drying, coal utilization, precious metals recovery and comminution. In addition to teaching and research, his position with the Mineral Industry Research Laboratory emphasizes technology transfer to Alaska’s mineral industry and service to the public.
