On Monday, January 30th, AUTC’s research team at North Carolina State University will conduct seismic tests and broadcast them live online.
The team, led by Mervyn Kowalski, will run large scale seismic tests on steel pier structures with multiple live video feeds viewers can monitor online at: http://flextps.ce.ncsu.edu/
Webcams will continue running throughout the day. This is the sixth steel pier test in this project, which examines bridge and marine structure design practices. Researchers hope to identify improvements in connection and designs to produce the necessary ductility and energy absorbing capacities for structures in Alaska. UPDATE: The research team has confirmed the seismic testing will proceed for 4-5 hours beginning around 9:00 AM Alaska Time (1:00 PM EST), and end between Noon and 1:00pm Alaska Time (4:00-5:00 PM EST).
As instrument sensors are sensitive to the sunlight penetrating facility windows, exact start and end times for each test may vary.
